SCRANTON - The junior legion squad from Montrose Post 154 opened their season Friday night in West Scranton against Post 920. Caedon Stone was on point, hurling a complete game no-hitter for the memorable 5-0 victory.
Stone used 109 pitches to get the complete game, tossing seven innings, striking out nine and walking five.
Max Hollett smacked the second pitch of the game into centerfield for the leadoff double, Alex Arndt followed with an infield single, putting runners on the corners.
Lucas Benscoter scored Hollett with a sacrifice fly to right, before Matt Tyler brought Arndt home with a single to give Post 154 the early 2-0 lead.
Stone issued back to back walks to start the bottom of the first, but his defense helped him out as shortstop Evan Strohl took a grounder up the middle, stepped on second and onto first for the 6-3 double play.
Stone would strikeout the side in the bottom of the second to keep it a 2-0 game, his team responded by giving him a couple more runs in support.
Hollett walked and Arndt singled to start the rally, Benscoter cracked a RBI double to center, plating Hollett.
Evan Strohl delivered a clutch two out single to bring Arndt in, putting his team on top 4-0.
The score remained the same until the fifth, when Arndt reached on an error and later came around to score on a single from Tyler, making it 5-0.
Stone allowed just one base runner in his final four innings of work to secure the 5-0 win, marking the second straight night the Montrose Legion teams held West Scranton hitless.
The Mountaineers pounded out 10 hits with Arndt, Tyler and Gabe Maby each recording multi-hit games. Arndt scored three times, while Tyler had two RBI.
Ruark, Benscoter and Hollett each laced a double, with Hollett scoring a pair of runs and Benscoter driving a pair in. Strohl also had a RBI single.
The Post 154 Junior Legion team returns to action Sunday as the host Abington Junior Legion at 1:00 in Montrose.
