HALSTEAD - Elk Lake capped off a busy week, winning their fourth game in five days as they defeated Blue Ridge before the rain Friday evening. The Lady Warriors got another dominant start from Marissa Horn and some timely hits to cruise to the 8-1 victory.
Horn and Hailey Carpenetti each sailed through the first two innings, with each pitcher allowing just one baserunner.
Elk Lake would break through in the top of the third as Lydia Howell led the inning off with a single.
Horn helped herself crushing her third homer of the week to left field on a 1-1 pitch to put her team up 2-0.
Leah Traver followed with a triple to get a rally started again. Brynn Warriner reached on a bunt single.
Aleece Greenley put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score Traver, Warriner would also score on the play after a Blue Ridge error.
Horn continued to breeze through the Lady Raiders lineup striking out the side in the third.
Celeste Clark walked and Taylor Traver singled to start the top of the fourth. Hannah Howell brought Clark in with a bunt single.
Horn followed with a double to score T. Traver. H. Howell scored on an error off the bat of L. Traver to give the Lady Warriors a 7-0 advantage.
The scored remained the same until the bottom of the sixth. Abby Piechocki reached one an error and later scored on a single by Carpenetti to make it 7-1.
Elk Lake would get the run right back as Warriner stroked a one out single in the seventh and eventually scored on a single by Greenley.
Horn fanned a pair of Lady Raiders in the bottom of the seventh as the Lady Warriors bring home the win with a final score of 8-1.
Horn frustrated the Blue Ridge hitters all game, striking out 12 in her seven innings of work. She allowed just two hits and a walk, giving up an unearned run.
Horn (3-4) led the Lady Warriors at the plate as well. The senior hit a homer and a pair of doubles, while driving in three runs and scoring one.
L. Traver (2-4) had a triple a RBI and a run scored as Warriner (2-4) scored a pair of runs.
Greenley (1-3) scored a run, while H. Howell (1-3) scored a run and drove one in.
T. Traver (1-3) scored a run, as L. Howell and Maddy Ely each had a hit, while Clark scored a run.
Carpenetti pitched three innings, striking out a batter. She allowed six runs - five earned on five hits and a walk.
Trista Laude struck out three, working the final four innings. She surrendered two runs - one earned on six hits.
Carpenetti tallied both the hits and the RBI for Blue Ridge, as Piechocki scored their only run.
