BASEBALL: MONTROSE USES 11 TWO OUT RUNS TO BEAT LACKAWANNA TRAIL 12-2 (2025-04-21)

FACTORYVILLE - Montrose used a seven run fifth inning at Lackawanna Trail to blow open what was a 4-1 ball game Monday evening. The Meteors wound up ending it in six innings with the 12-2 mercy rule win.

Two out runs were the theme all night for the Meteors, scoring their first 11 runs with two outs to control momentum throughout the game.

Hudson Aukema earned the win on the mound, striking out seven Lions over four and a third. He allowed two runs - zero earned on two hits and six walks.

Adam Sorensen fanned a pair and gave up a couple hits, as he hurled the final inning and two-thirds on the bump for the Meteors.

Montrose scored a run in the top of the first, Kasey Carey drew a five pitch walk and later scored on an error off the bat of Aukema.

Aukema worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning to keep the Lions off the scoreboard.

Tucker Kinney needed just six pitches to record two outs in the top of the second, before the Meteors put a three run rally together.

Keaton Kildare started the uprising with a single, then Lincoln Brander was hit by a pitch. Sorensen scored Kildare with a single, before Carey brought Brander and Sorensen home with a single of his own.

Aukema cruised until the fourth inning, after the leadoff man reached on an error, he walked the next batter before getting a strikeout.

He then surrendered back to back walks to force in a run, but he was able to limit the damage by striking out then next two batters to keep his team ahead 4-1.

Kinney allowed the Meteors to load the bases with one out, by walking a pair and hitting a batter.

Trail opted for a pitching change bringing in Will Evans, who recorded a quick strikeout as the looked to get out of the jam.

However Evans walked the next three batters to force in three runs. Then Kildare, Sorensen and Carey delivered back to back to back singles to blow it open.

The Lions manufactured a run with a pair of walks and a catcher's interference call, scoring on a ground out to extend the game another inning.

Aukema and Jeremy Henry started the top of the sixth off with consecutive singles, Aukema would steal home later in the inning to put the Meteors ahead 12-2.

The Lions put runners on second and third, but Sorensen closed the door and ended the game early as the Meteors down Trail 12-2 in six innings.

Montrose got a pair of singles and two RBI's apiece from Sorensen and Carey, while Carey scored twice and Sorensen once.

Aukema, Kildare and Brander each had a hit and scored a pair of runs. Brander also drove in a pair. 

Henry had the other Montrose hit, while Lukas Cokely, Chris McGee and Chase Harman each scored a run.

Montrose improves to 6-5 with the victory and will play at Carbondale tomorrow night.
