SUSQUEHANNA - Susquehanna scored in all five innings, including a five spot in the third inning on their way to the 11-1 victory over Mountain View on a cold and damp Wednesday evening.
Susquehanna's Lauren Huyck was efficient in the circle to earn the win, tossing just 57 pitches in five innings. She gave up one run on four hits, while striking out seven.
Gianna Gravine started for Mountain View, pitching two innings giving up four runs - three earned on four hits and a pair of walks to go with two strikeouts.
Christina Denney pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing seven unearned runs on three hits and six walks while fanning four batters.
Cassandra Cottrell had the big day at the plate for the Lady Sabers, smacking a pair of doubles and a triple. She finished with four funs batted in and scored twice, stealing a base in the process.
Meghan Perry had two singles and scored a pair of runs. Jordyn Oney-Roth had a a run scoring single and touched home safely twice.
Marley Smith also had a hit and scored a run for the Lady Sabers. Brooke Collins and Piper Heller each scored a run.
The Lady Eagles had five hits, Karley Norton and Emily Trichilo each hit a double. While Anabelle Bowman, Addison Kilmer, Mimi Sedlak all singled.
Trichilo drove in Sedlak for the lone Mountain View run in the top of the fourth inning.
Norton led the game off with a double, but never made it past second base as Huyck worked out of the early jam.
Cottrell started the home half with a double of her own. She later scored on an Oney-Roth single to get the Lady Sabers on the board.
Perry would also single in the inning, her and Oney-Roth each scored on a passed ball to make it 3-0 after one inning.
Huyck retired the Lady Eagles in order in the second. Cottrell added to the Lady Sabers lead with a run scoring triple in the bottom half, putting her team up 4-0.
Bowman and Kilmer each connected for two out singles in the third, but Huyck got a strikeout to end the scoring threat.
Susquehanna pulled away in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on just one hit. It was Cottrell delivering the bases loaded double, clearing the bases.
Mountain View pushed a two out run across in the fourth. Sedlak hit a single, Trichilo wasted no time getting her teammate home, smashing an 0-1 pitched into left field for a double.
Susquehanna got the run back in the home half of the fourth, as Perry and Smith each singled in the inning and Perry later scored on a wild pitch.
Huyck induced three consecutive groundouts in the fifth on just four pitches.
After Susquehanna loaded the bases on walks in the bottom of the seventh, Cottrell crossed home to give the Lady Sabers the 11-1 five inning victory.
For Susquehanna it was their first win of the year, after opening the season with a pair of tough games against NTL foes. They travel to Carbondale Friday, with first pitch at 4:30.
With the loss Mountain View drops to 1-3, they will host Elk Lake on Friday afternoon at 4:30.
