Three Blue Ridge grapplers will make the trek to Williamsport Friday for the PIAA AA Northeast Regional tournament. Brice Woodruff(121) qualified as a district champion last week, while Aidan Tanzini(107) and Zachary Krupovich(160) each qualified as district runner ups.

The Northeast Regional tournament is made up of the top three place winners from District II and  the top seven from District IV.

The top four wrestlers from each of the 13 weight classes will qualify for the PIAA state tournament in Hershey that begins next Thursday.

Wrestling starts 5:00 tonight at the Williamsport High School gymnasium. The preliminary round will be followed by the quarterfinals and consolation round one.

Action will resume Saturday morning at 9:00, starting with consolation round two, followed by the semifinals, consolation rounds three and four as well as the fifth and six place matches.

After a brief intermission the consolation finals will begin at 4:30, with the championship finals slated to start at 6:00.

The Raiders head coach Charlie Church is proud of the work his grapplers have put in to reach this point in the season.

"We are preparing for regionals the way we prepare for any other match. The work has been done, we are there! The focus is on being healthy and strong, not just physically but mentally too. Wrestling is about the willingness to put forth the effort and see it pay off in the circle. Having freshman make it to regionals proves to the team every wrestler has the potential to make it to states. We can no longer say I am just a freshman." Coach Church stated.

Woodruff has some experience to draw from, he was a regional qualifier at 107 pounds last season, losing in the consolation quarterfinals to come up short of a trip to Hershey.

This season Woodruff has a record of 28-9 and enters the tournament as a District Champion and the number two seed at 121 pounds, the junior will receive  a bye into the quarterfinals.

Tanzini has a 27-8 record on the season and qualifies for regionals as a freshman, capturing a silver medal at 107 pounds in his first district tournament.

Tanzini is seeded in the fourth slot and will wrestle the District IV third place finisher and fellow freshman Branden Eisenhower of Montoursville.

Krupovich has amassed a 24-13 record in his sophomore campaign, he brought home a silver medal from districts last week, winning a thrilling semifinal match to reach the finals.

The 160 pounder is also seeded fourth and will wrestle Shamokin's Chase Pensyl in the quarterfinals. The senior from Shamokin captured a bronze medal last week in the district IV tournament.
