KINGSLEY - It was the second heart pumping basketball game in as many nights in J. William McGlaughlin Gymnasium, but this time Mountain View came out on the wrong side on the scoreboard, seeing their season come to an end with a 52-48 loss to Lackawanna Trail.
It was a slow third quarter that doomed the Eagles, after they had built a four point lead at the half, their offense sputtered in the third quarter scoring only six points.
The Lions capitalized taking a lead they would never relinquish as they led by as many as nine at one point in the fourth.
Mountain View showed a tremendous amount of heart, pulling to within three with 40 seconds to go, but the Lions made just enough free throws to secure the semifinal victory.
Freshman Josh Miller handed out assists on the Eagles first two field goals. First to Jordan Jagger for three and then to Ziggy Bradford to make the score 5-2 Eagles.
Lions freshman Lucas Filipek and senior Jake Antolick each hit a bucket to put their team up 6-5.
Jackson Gesford and Filipek would exchange three pointers to make it 9-8 with 3:28 seconds to play in the first quarter.
Miller dished out his third dime of the quarter to Bradford to put the Eagles back out front, but Antolick nailed one from behind the arc to get the Lions back out front 12-10.
Gesford knotted things up with a little hook shoot, Bain reclaimed the lead for his team with a nice finish in the lane.
With 50 seconds to play in the opener, Gesford collected a rebound and pushed it up court finishing with an athletic move.
The Lions responded as Antolick buried his second triple of the first at the buzzer to make it 16-15 after eight minutes of play.
Lorenzo Domiano scored the first points of the second off an offensive rebound and put back, giving the Lions a one point lead.
Bain and Filipek traded a free throw, then Bain made a great pass to Gesford who put his team up one with a layup.
Their lead grew to four when Gesford connected on a long ball off an assist from Jagger, but the Lions answered with a 5-0 spurt to take the lead with 2:51 left in the first half.
Mountain View would close the half on a 5-0 spurt of their own, first Bain converted three the old fashioned way with an and one.
Then just before the buzzer Bradford made one of the best passes of the contest to Bain who made a spectacular move and finish at the buzzer to put the Eagles up 27-23 at the break.
Miller scored on a tough finish to start things in the third, Filipek hit a three and Antolick a two as they cut the Eagles lead to just a point.
Bain got the advantage back to three with another nice move and finish, but Trail responded scoring the next six points to take a 34-31 lead with 3:40 to play in the third.
Miller made a nifty touch pass to Jagger trimming the Lions lead to one, but that's as close as the Eagles would get to the lead as Filipek hit a bucket to end the third putting Trail up by three.
Domiano got momentum completely behind the Lions, converting an and one to kick off the scoring in the fourth quarter.
Gesford and Bradford connected for the pretty alley oop type pass the duo has perfected, Bain hit a pair of foul shots as the Eagles pulled within two points with 5:47 to play.
Mountain View would go nearly five minutes without a field goal as the Lions lead ballooned to seven during the span.
Bain ended the field goal drought, grabbing an offensive board and laying it in to make it 48-43 with :51 to play.
The Lions struggled from the line, but Sean Langley made one to make it 49-43, Jagger got the home crowd back into it drilling a three pointer with 40 seconds left to make it a three point game.
The Lions would hit three foul shots to preserve the win, Gesford scored just before the final buzzer sounded. Lackwanna Trail advances to the AA district II final with the 52-48 victory.
Gesford scored a team high 18 points for Mountain View, he also had seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Bain was also in double figures for the Eagles, tallying 14 points, five boards and a pair of assists. Jagger finished with eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
Bradford contributed with six points, six rebounds and three assists, Miller chipped in with four assists, two points and a rebound.
Filipek led all scorers with 22 points for the Lions, connecting on five threes, Antolick notched 15 points as well for the Lions.
Mountain View's season comes to an end with the defeat, they finished the season with a solid record of 16-8.
