DISTRICT WRESTLING: WYATT STEELE NOTCHES FOUR PINS AT DISTRICTS, FINISHING FIFTH FOR MONTROSE (2025-02-22)

WILKES-BARRE - The Montrose Meteors had five wrestlers make it through to the Saturday portion of the District II Wrestling Championships. All five wrestlers dropped one match on Friday, starting their Saturday in the consolation bracket.

Sawyer Brander(107) finished his tournament 1-2, losing his opener on Friday night in the quarterfinals. Then Saturday he lost in the consolation semifinal 19-3 to Chase Smith of Hanover Area.

Brander won his final match of the season, scoring an 11-7 decision over Valley View's James Scagliotti to get on the podium in fifth place.

Delos Stone(114) decked John Healey of Valley View in 2:16 during his first consolation match. He was defeated 18-0 by Gabriel Maby of Blue Ridge in his next match. Stone would settle for sixth place losing a close 4-3 decision to Honesdale's Brody Walsh in the fifth place match.

Carl Nolt(133) was flattened by Sawyer Keller of Berwick in his opening match on Saturday. Nolt finished his tournament with a 1-2 record.

Wyatt Steele(145) had the best showing for the Meteors, the sophomore went 2-1 on Friday night recording a pair of pins.

Steele opened his day with another fall, this time pinning Western Wayne's Kalob Franko in 4:02. He would drop his next match 21-6 to Michael Perez of Hanover Area.

However Steele would tally his fourth win of the tournament, winning his fifth place bout over Cooper Rusak of Scranton Prep, notching his fourth pin in the process. The Montrose sophomore finishes his season with 23 wins.

Corey Anderson went 1-1 on Friday night, but was eliminated Saturday, losing his first bout of the day to Valley View's Mason Mitchell by fall in 1:54.

Lincoln Brander(152), Lucas Brookes(160) and Justus Acker(189) also competed at the district tournament for the Meteors, but failed to make it to Saturday.
