There's plenty of different sporting events taking place today for our local athletes. There is a pair of Semifinal boys basketball games for hardcourt enthusiasts. If you enjoy high school wrestling, the District tournament resumes tomorrow, or you can catch the district II diving championships.
BOYS BASKETBALL AA SEMIFINALS
3:00-(#3)Lackawanna Trail(13-10) @ (#2)Mountain View(16-7)- These two teams will tip off for the third time this season. With the Eagles sweeping the season series, with a 56-34 win on Jan. 6 and a 47-41 victory on Jan. 31. This time the stakes are much higher though, as the winner not only advances to the AA final at the Mohegan Sun Arena, but they also guarantee themselves a spot in the PIAA State tournament.
BOYS BASKETBALL AAA SEMIFINALS
1:00-(#3)Elk Lake(20-3) @ (#2)Holy Cross(20-3)- The Warriors will hit the road to travel to basketball powerhouse Holy Cross. The Crusaders played the toughest schedule of any AAA team in the district with an opponents win percentage of just over 58. While the Warriors opponents win percentage was a hair over 39 percent. Coach John Warnero and the Warriors have notched an impressive 20 wins this season. They will need to play one of their best games of the season tomorrow to advance.
DISTRICT WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
10:00- The district II wrestling tournament resumes tomorrow at the Wilkes-Barre Area High School. The Raiders have four grapplers in the semifinals, while the Warriors have one. Blue Ridge also has four wrestlers still alive in the consolations, Montrose has five, Elk Lake has three and Mountain View has one. The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to the Northeast Regional tournament in Williamsport next weekend.
DISTRICT II DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
10:00-Wilkes-Barre CYC will host the PIAA District II Diving Championships today as the Elk Lake Warriors will send several competitors down to compete in the event.
