WILKES-BARRE - The Warriors sent seven grapplers to compete in the district tournament Friday evening. They sent four wrestlers through to Saturday, with Hunter Hunsinger(133) advancing to the semifinals. Brent Drost(121), Colby Ruark(189), and Nathaniel Thurman(215) are still alive in the wrestle backs.
Hunsinger won his preliminary round match against David Skelton by fall in 4:14. Then in the quarterfinals Hunsinger defeated Shane Emsley by medical forfeit, Hunsinger was winning 14-3 at the time of the forfeit. He will wrestle Tunkhannock's Brody Woods tomorrow morning in the semifinals.
Drost dropped quarterfinal match to Riley Borruso by tech. fall 17-2 in 0:53. Drost squares off with Mason Veina of Valley View in the consolation quarterfinals tomorrow morning.
Ruark pinned Justus Acker of Montrose in 1:11 in the preliminary match. Ruark lost his quarterfinal match by fall to Reilley Kirkutis of Lake Lehman in 3:31. Ruark will take on Kenny Martin of Dallas when wrestling resumes tomorrow.
Thurman lost by fall to Kaylix Douglas of Lackawanna Trail in 0:28 in the quarterfinals. He will wrestle Western Wayne's Ashton Cook in the consolation quarterfinal in the morning.
Derek Learn(139), Koby Huyck(172) and Ethan Smith(285) ended their seasons on Friday night, dropping both of their respective bouts.
Action resumes tomorrow morning at 10:00 in the Wilkes Barre Area High School gymnasium.
