TAYLOR - The Lady Meteors hit the road for their quarterfinal matchup with Riverside on Tuesday night. It was a tight game throughout with Montrose down three entering the fourth, but Sadie Jones and Carly Frey came up clutch in the final period, propelling their team to the 47-40 win.
The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Meteors 12-10 in the opening quarter. Carly Frey nailed a pair of three pointers, Molly Weller sank a pair of two pointers for Montrose.
The Lady Meteors added 10 more points in the second, Jones led the way with seven points, converting an and one along the way.
Weller sank a shot from behind the arc for the other three points. Riverside scored 13 in the frame as they held the 25-20 advantage at halftime.
Montrose cut the deficit to three points after the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Panthers 10-8 in the stanza.
Jones tallied eight points, knocking down a three point field goal, a pair of two point field goals, along with a foul shot. Frey was two of two from the stripe, after three it was 33-30 Riverside in front.
The young Lady Meteor team showed up big in the fourth dumping in 17 points, while having their best defensive stanza of the game holding Riverside to just seven points.
Jones notched three buckets and was flawless in both attempts at the line, finishing the frame with eight points.
Ally Legg and Frey each buried a huge three pointer, Frey scored three more on a bucket and a free throw.
When the final horn sounded it was a big victory on the road for the Lady Meteors and head coach Dallas Ely in a tough AAA playoff bracket, with a final score of 47-40.
Coach Ely had this to say about her team's performance after the game. "Tonight we came out and played timid to start the game and really picked up the intensity in the second half both on defense and on offense. We got big stops and crashed the boards hard on the offensive end."
Jones had a solid second half scoring 16 of her game high 23 points in the final 16 minutes. The stellar sophomore was happy with how her team preformed. "It was so fun to watch our team come together and really show that we wanted it. We worked hard to figure out how to get it done and got some key plays from every girl on the floor. I'm so proud of our team and happy for what we've been able to accomplish so far."
Fellow sophomore Frey also had a big night, notching double digits, finishing with 14 points. Weller scored all seven of her points in the first half, Legg chipped in with three points.
Montrose advances to the AAA semifinal with the win. They will travel to face the top seeded Dunmore Bucks on Friday with a 7:00 tip time.
