CARBONDALE - Jackson Gesford entered the last game of the regular season Thursday night needing 21 points to join the 1,000 club. He scored 14 points in the first half, then with just over two minutes to play in the third he scored on a post move to notch his 1000th career point.
Gesford's love for basketball is evident by the amount of time he spends around the game, the senior had this to say about his special moment. "Scoring 1,000 is just an amazing feeling, I've been blessed to have so much support and so many opportunities since I began playing this sport."
"I couldn't have asked for better coaches, teammates and fans to help me along this journey. It's taken hours of time spent in the driveway and in countless gyms putting in work, but I wouldn't trade any of it. It's an awesome feeling and I am so unbelievably grateful."
The Eagles overcame a slow start in the first quarter, scoring 60 points in the final three quarters to earn the 67-37 victory over Carbondale.
Mountain View trailed 9-7 after eight minutes, Ziggy Bradford nailed a three pointer. Gesford and Josh Miller each added a bucket.
The Eagles defense held the Chargers to just four points in the second, while putting up 20 points on the offensive side.
Gesford poured in 12 points, tallying eight of them from the foul line. Wyatt Thatcher buried one from behind the arc.
Bradford hit a two pointer, Hudson Bain made a pair of free throws, Max Madura added another. At the halftime intermission they held the 27-13 advantage.
Mountain View went on a 23 point scoring frenzy in the third, Gesford led the way with four field goals and a pair from the stripe totaling 10 points.
Bain notched six points, Jordan Jagger drained a three on his way to five points, Bradford chipped in with a pair. Heading to the final quarter they were up by 27 points.
Cooper Biondo canned a pair of threes and a foul shot, scoring seven of the Eagles 17 fourth quarter points.
Miller also hit a shot from downtown, Madura scored three on a bucket and a free throw. Lucas and Jackson Gesford each knocked down a two pointer.
When the final buzzer sounded coach Jim McAndrew's Mountain View Eagles recorded their 15th victory of the season, beating Carbondale by a final score of 67-37.
Jackson Gesford scored a game leading 26 points and now has 1,005 for his impressive career.
Bain finished with eight points, Bradford and Biondo each had seven. Jagger and Miller added five points apiece, Madura notched four, Thatcher and Lucas Gesford chipped in scoring three and two points respectively.
