JV GIRLS B-BALL: LADY METEORS WIN DEFENSIVE BATTLE OVER LADY WARRIORS (2025-02-12)

SPRINGVILLE - The Elk Lake and Montrose JV teams squared off in their final game of the season Wednesday night. Treating the fans to tight game to get the evening of girls basketball started. The Lady Meteors came out the victors, 28-24.
Caitlyn Remiel buried a three pointer 50 seconds into the game for the Lady Meteors to get the scoring started. That would prove to be the only field goal of the quarter.
Erica McGlynn and Lillian Warner each made a free throw for the only Lady Warrior points in the frame. After seven minutes it was 3-2 in favor of Montrose.
MycKenna Kublo scored the first bucket of the second period to put the Lady Meteors up 5-2. Laci Ayotte drained a three 19 seconds later to tie it at five apiece.
Montrose went on a 5-0 spurt with Remiel canning her second long ball of the game, followed by a bucket from June McGee, making the score 10-5.
McGlynn and Piper Keeney each converted a free throw, then Lillian Warner dished out an assist to Keeney to make it 10-9 with 1:12 left in the first half.
Krisalyn Welch handed out a dime of her own to Alyssa Jackson to put Montrose up three. Warner got one back at the line for Elk Lake, who trailed by two at halftime.
Lauren Youells connected on a 15 foot jumper to open the third quarter tying things up at 12. The Lady Meteors responded with a 7-0 run.
Jackson knocked down a two pointer to start the run, Kublo hit one from behind the arc. She then made a great outlet pass up the court to Jackson, who took it in for the layup, making it 19-12 with 4:02 left in the third.
Maddy Baker got the Lady Warriors back on the board, scoring a bucket off a Kendyl Weisgold assist. Welch immediately got those two back, plus one drilling one from downtown to make it 22-14.
Ayotte scored a basket off an assist from Baker to cut the lead to six, but Kublo splashed another three to end the third quarter with her team up 25-16.
Elk Lake cut the deficit to four, notching five points in 35 seconds to start the fourth. Keeney scored on a great inbounds pass from Taylor Traver, Baker collected a steal and drilled a three pointer to make it 25-21.
Both teams went scoreless for nearly five minutes, until McGee scored off a great look from Kublo to give the Lady Meteors some breathing room.
Youells and Kublo traded foul shots to keep it a six point game with :41 on the clock. Warner found Youells with another assist for the last bucket of the game, final score Montrose 28 Elk Lake 24.
Kublo finished with nine points, taking home game high honors, she also had six boards and a pair of assists.
Jackson and Remiel tallied six points apiece, McGee added four and Welch chipped in with three points and a pair of dimes.
The quartet of Ayotte, Baker, Keeney and Youells notched five points each to pace the Lady Warriors offense. Keeney also grabbed seven boards, Baker handed out three assist and had a pair of steals.
McGlynn and Warner each chipped in with two points at the foul line to round out the Elk Lake scoring effort.
