GIRLS BASKETBALL: KATIE MCGLYNN'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE POWERS LADY WARRIORS PAST MONTROSE (2025-02-12)

SPRINGVILLE - It was the final game of the regular season for the Lady Warriors and the Lady Meteors. Giving the fans a tight game for three quarters as Montrose looked for the upset, but Elk Lake pulled away in the fourth to win by a final score of 45-29.

Leah Traver swished a three pointer 37 seconds into the contest putting the Lady Warriors up 3-0. Montrose senior Rory Gurn answered with a nice take and finish on the other end to make it 3-2.

Sadie Jones gave the Lady Meteors the lead at the 5:30 mark with an athletic move in the paint. Katie McGlynn corralled on offensive board and laid it in to give the lead back to Elk Lake.

Gurn found Hailey Aukema open for three to give Montrose a 7-5 lead with just under four minutes to play in the first. McGlynn tied things back up scoring off a nice look from Traver.

Gurn handed out another assist, this time to Molly Weller, but McGlynn again answered for the Lady Warriors tying things at nine after one.

Montrose struck first in the second, with Jones scoring a bucket. McGlynn again pulled Elk Lake back to even with a layup.

Marissa Horn gave the Lady Warriors the lead connecting on a 15 foot jumper. The lead was short lived as Jones found MycKenna Kublo open for three, putting Montrose up one with 3:42 to go in the half.

McGlynn scored the games next four points, before Kublo buried another three pointer to knot things at 17 with 2:25 to play. 

Traver converted one of two at the stripe to close the second quarter. Heading into the locker room the Lady Warriors held a one point lead with the score 18-17.

Carly Frey dished out an assist to Weller to get the second half scoring started. Casselbury nailed a three on the other end, with Horn getting the assist.

Frey tied things up at 21 with a bucket, Weller canned her second triple of the night to give the Lady Meteors a three point lead with 3:12 left in the third.

McGlynn hit a free throw, Horn tied things at 24 apiece hitting both her foul shots. Casselbury buried her second long ball of the quarter giving Elk Lake the 27-24 advantage.

Traver extended the lead to six, sinking her second three point field goal of the contest. Jones cut the lead to four scoring off a Kublo assist.

Horn scored the final points of the third quarter, snaring an offensive board and putting it back just before the buzzer, putting her team up 32-26 entering the final frame.

Horn handed out her first of three fourth quarter assists to fellow senior Cam Greenwood to give the Lady Warriors their biggest lead of the night at nine.

Jones got a point back at the stripe, before the Warriors all but put the game out of reach scoring the games next six points.

Kylie Shingler hit consecutive baskets, first with a layup, then she scored off another great look from Horn. McGlynn added a bucket to make it 41-27 with 4:38 remaining in the contest.

Frey scored the final Montrose bucket of the night to trim the deficit to 12. Greenwood hit a 12 foot jump shot again assisted by Horn, Traver and Casselbury each notched one at the line.

When the final buzzer of the regular season sounded, it was Elk Lake coming away with the 45-29 victory. With the win the Lady Warriors finish the season undefeated in Division III of the Lackawanna League with a perfect 14-0 record.

For the Lady Warriors it's their first league title in a quarter century, head coach Meghan Casselbury had this to say about the accomplishment. "We are very excited to make it happen this year. Their defense and teamwork is impeccable. They never want to stop fighting, they have drive. Team chemistry is something you can't teach or even try to create sometimes, and fortunately we have that. Honestly I am so proud of the way they play. They don't talk back to refs, to other teams, or their own teammates. I'm not saying we're perfect by any means, but we're a family."

McGlynn recorded a double-double in the final regular season game of her career. Finishing with 15 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

Traver added 13 rebounds, eight points, a pair of assists, two steals and a block. Casselbury tallied seven points, two boards and a pair of blocks.

Horn had a solid performance, scoring six points, handing out six dimes, grabbing five rebounds and a steal. Greenwood had five points and a rebound, Shingler chipped in with four points, a pair of rebounds and a block.

The Lady Meteors were led offensively by Jones and Weller each scoring seven points. Jones added six boards and a pair of assists. Kublo buried a pair of three pointers to finish with six points.

Frey ended her night with four points, three rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal. Aukema notched three points and two boards. Gurn chipped in with a pair of points and assists, along with a rebound.
