JR LEGION BASEBALL: MAX HOLLETT'S SOLID DAY LEADS POST 154 TO VICTORY OVER ABINGTON (2025-06-01)

MONTROSE - The Montrose Post 154 Junior Legion Team had its home opener Sunday afternoon, as they hosted the junior squad from Abington. Post 154 improved to a perfect 2-0, escaping with the 10-8 victory.

Connor Stephens notched the win on the bump, hurling the first four innings, striking out five. He allowed one run, on one hit and a walk.

River Hoover pitched the fifth inning, fanning a batter. He gave up two runs, on two hits and a pair of walks.

Max Hollett worked the final two innings, sitting five batters down via the strikeout. He surrendered five runs, on six hits and a walk.

The Mountaineers struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, as Hollett and Alex Arndt each drew a walk to start the rally.

Lucas Benscoter plated Hollett on a RBI single, Matt Tyler scored Arndt with a RBI groundout, making it 2-0 after one.

Abington finally broke through with a run in the top of the third, but Post 154 answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half.

Ian Briechle led it off with a single and later scored on a single off the bat of Hollett. Benscoter brought Hollett to the plate, reaching on an error, extending the lead to 4-1.

Evan Strohl helped Montrose push two more runs across in the bottom of the fourth, leading the frame off with a single.

Colby Ruark blistered a double into left field, bringing Strohl into score. Hollett connected for another single to score Ruark, putting Post 154 up 6-1.

Abington scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, trimming the Montrose lead to three, however Post 154 got one back in the bottom of the frame.

Benscoter drew a leadoff walk, followed by a Jack Treadway single. Strohl laid down a nice bunt, scoring Benscoter in the process.

Abington continued to put pressure on the Mountaineers, striking for a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, making the score 7-5.

Montrose would again have an answer, this time pushing across three insurance runs to put the game out of reach.

Nick Jennings, Hollett, Arndt and Benscoter were each issued a free pass, with Treadway providing the only hit in the three run uprising.

Abington made it interesting, scoring a trio of runs in the top of the seventh, but they ultimately fell short, as Montrose wins its second straight game to open the season, by a final of 10-8.

Hollett and Treadway each had a pair of singles and two RBI's, Hollett also scored a team high three runs.

Ruark smacked a double, driving in a run and scoring another, while Benscoter had a single, to go with a pair of RBI's and a run scored.

Strohl and Briechle each had a single and a run scored, while Strohl also drove in a run. Arndt scored a pair of runs and Jennings scored once, while Tyler had a RBI.

The Post 154 junior squad will return to action on Friday June 6, when they host Dickson City Post 665, with first pitch slated for 5:30.
