BASEBALL: SHERMAN HURLS GEM; McMICKEN CRUSHES ANOTHER HOMER AS ELK LAKE BEATS BLUE RIDGE (2025-04-24)

NEW MILFORD - Elk Lake continued the trend of quality starts from their pitching staff as Dawson Sherman hurled a two hit shutout, while fanning nine batters as the Warriors defeated Blue Ridge 11-0 in five innings Thursday evening.

Blue Ridge starter Matt Davis sat the Warriors down in order to start the game. Sherman worked a perfect bottom of the first as well.

Noah Gesford and Sherman each connected for a single to lead off the second. Cohen Orlandini drew a one out walk, then Isaiah Strohl was hit by a pitch, scoring Gesford.

Courtesy runner Max Hollett scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0. John Heitsman and McMicken each were issued a walk as Orlandini scored.

Brayden Miller hit a liner into right scoring Strohl and Heitsman. Alden Felker followed with a run scoring single to get McMicken home, putting the Warriors up 6-0.

Sherman worked a perfect second and third inning, striking out a pair in each frame.

Heitsman led the top of the fourth of with a double. He would later score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Miller.

Felker delivered another run scoring single to bring McMicken in for the 8-0 Elk Lake lead.

Gehrig Dibble broke up Sherman's perfect game with one out in the fourth with a single. Michael Smith also singled with two outs, but Sherman got a flyout to end the threat.

The Warriors used some two out magic to push three more runs across in the fifth. First Heitsman cracked his second double of the game to score Orlandini.

Then McMicken hit his second opposite field homer in as many games to give the Warriors the 11-0 advantage.

Sherman fanned a pair of Raiders in the bottom of the fifth, giving Elk Lake the 11-0 mercy rule victory.

Felker and Heitsman each notched a pair of hits, Felker drove in a pair of runs while Heitsman scored three times and drove one in.

McMicken and Miller each drove in three runs, McMicken also scored three times. Gesford also had a hit and scored a run.

Sherman had the other Warrior hit, while Orlandini scored a pair of runs and Strohl scored one and drove one in.

Davis lasted one and a third on the mound for Blue Ridge. He gave up six runs on four hits and three walks.

Smith went three and a third, striking out two. He allowed five runs - two earned on four hits. Brendan Marvin fanned the only batter he faced.
