SusCo Sports Report
MONTROSE - Montrose came through with another walk off win in front of the home crowd, as they edged Susquehanna 3-2 in a well played baseball game Wednesday afternoon.
Both starting pitchers pitched well, with each of them earning a no decision.
Hudson Aukema started for the Meteors, recording 11 of his 16 outs with strikeouts. He allowed an unearned run on one hit and five walks.
Matt Callendar started for the Sabers, recording 10 strikeouts in his five innings of work. He gave up a hit and six walks in the no decision.
Susquehanna scored the first run of the ball game in the top of the second. Callendar drew a leadoff walk and later scored on an error off the bat of Gabe Maby for the 1-0 lead.
Callendar walked the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the second, but worked out of trouble, ending the inning with a strikeout.
The score remained the same until each team went to the bullpen. It was the Meteors getting to the Sabers bullpen in the bottom of the sixth.
Chase Harman reached on an error with one out, Lucas Brander followed with a single. Adam Sorensen delivered a clutch two out single to score them both and give the Meteors the 2-1 lead.
Sorensen who came on in relief of Aukema in the sixth, got a strikeout to start the top of the seventh.
He then plunked Will Marcy, walked Caedon Stone and Travis Rooney to load the bases.
Chris McGee would come to the mound to try and snuff out the rally, but Callendar reached on an error, allowing the tying run to score.
McGee would do a great job working out of further trouble however, getting a pop out to first and a strikeout to end the threat and keep the game tied.
Lukas Cokely and Hudson Aukema started the home half of the seventh off with singles to put the Meteors in business.
After Rooney notched a strikeout for the first out, Alex Stoddard delivered the walk off single to left on a 1-2 pitch to give the Meteors the 3-2 walk off win.
Montrose tallied six hits with Sorensen, Kasey Carey, Cokely, Aukema, Stoddard and Brander each notching a single.
Sorensen and Stoddard each drove a run in, while Cokely, Harman and Brander each scored a run.
McGee got the win on the bump striking out one in .2 innings of work. Sorensen gave up an unearned run with two strikeouts in his inning of relief.
Parker Overbaugh had the lone hit for Susquehanna. Callendar and Marcy each scored a run, while Callendar also drove a run in.
Rooney threw 1.1 innings in relief to get the loss. He allowed three runs - one earned one five hits, with four strikeouts.
