BASEBALL: KASEY CAREY IS THE HERO WITH WALK OFF SINGLE AS MONTROSE DOWNS MOUNTAIN VIEW IN EXTRA INNINGS (2025-04-09)

MONTROSE - Mountain View jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and looked to be in cruise control, holding a 7-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. However Montrose would plate five runs, then win it in the eighth on a Kasey Carey walk off.
Both teams played sloppy defense combining for 16 errors, accounting for 12 unearned runs in the ball game.
Josh Miller reached on a one out error, then came around to score on a Tanner Holtsmaster single as the Eagles took the 1-0 lead.
In the second inning Jeremiah Tweed led things off with a single, followed by an Aidan McCloskey walk. Ziggy Bradford reached on an error to load the bases with nobody out.
After Chris McGee induced a popout, Holtsmaster singled home Tweed to make it 2-0. Jagger reached on an error, that allowed McCloskey and Bradford to score.
Holtsmaster scurried home on a passed ball to make it 5-0, then Bain reached on an error that scored Jagger, putting the Eagles up 6-0.
Montrose finally broke the ice in the fourth. Lukas Cokely led it off with a single, he would later score on a single off the bat of Chris McGee.
The Meteors manufactured a run in the fifth, Carey worked a 12 pitch walk, he advanced to third on a Cokely single, then scored on a fielder's choice groundout from Hudson Aukema.
Mountain View capitalized on a pair of Meteor errors in the sixth, scoring an insurance run with just a Jackson Gesford single in the inning.
The score stayed the same until the Meteors came to bat in the home half of the seventh. Lincoln Brander led it off with a single, he then scored when Adam Sorensen reached on an error.
After Carey walked, Cokely singled to load the bases. Aukema got Sorensen home, reaching on an error to keep the bases loaded, with the tying run on first.
Carey would get called out trying to score on a passed ball. Stoddard quickly got momentum back for Montrose lacing a single to score Cokely, cutting the lead to just two runs.
McGee flew out to center, but Aukema scored on an error after the catch to make it a one run ball game.
With the tying run at second and two outs, Chase Harman delivered a game tying single on a full count pitch, allowing Stoddard to score the tying run.
Jagger led off the eighth with a double, but was stranded in scoring position to end the threat and keep the game tied.
Jeremy Henry reached on an error to start the bottom of the eighth. After two quick outs, Carey came up clutch with the walk off single up the middle to score Henry and giving the Meteors the 8-7 extra inning walk off win.
McGee pitched well for the Meteors, striking out four over four innings of work. He surrendered six runs - zero earned, on seven hits and two walks.
Sorensen pitched well in relief to earn the win. He pitched four innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and three strikeouts.
Cokely led the Meteor offense with three hits, while scoring a pair of runs. Sorensen also scored a pair of runs and drove one in.
Carey, McGee, Stoddard, Harman and Brander each had a hit. With Carey and Stoddard each driving a run in and scoring a run.
Harman and McGee each had a run batted in, while Brander scored a run. Hudson Aukema had two big RBI's and scored a run.
Jordan Jagger pitched into the seventh for the Eagles, striking out four along the way. He gave up four runs - three earned on four hits and four walks.
The freshman Miller came on in relief, but couldn't hold the lead. He allowed three unearned runs on three hits and a walk in an inning of work.
Hudson Bain came out for the eighth and took the loss, surrendering a hit and an unearned run.
Mountain View notched 10 hits, with Bradford, Holtsmaster, Jagger and Gesford each registering a pair of hits.
Holtsmaster had two runs batted in and scored a run. Jagger doubled, scored twice and drove a run in, while Bradford scored a run.
Bain doubled and drove a run home, while Jeremiah Tweed singled and came around to score once. Miller and Aidan McCloskey each scored a run.
