SOFTBALL: MEL BLOOMER LIFTS BLUE RIDGE OVER SUSQUEHANNA WITH WALK OFF TWO RUN BOMB (2025-04-09)

HALSTEAD - Mel Bloomer crushed a two run walk off homer to complete the comeback for Blue Ridge Wednesday evening. The Lady Raiders trailed most of the game, but scored six runs in their final two at bats to beat Susquehanna 13-11.

The Lady Sabers scored in each of the first five innings, then broke a 10-10 tie in the top of the seventh scoring a run.

Back to back doubles to start the home half by Liberty Post and Cheyanne Kupier tied it at 11. Allowing Bloomer to step to the plate and deliver the walk-off memory.

Cottrell lined the first pitch of the game to center for a leadoff triple. Oney-Roth plated Cottrell and Smith with a double.

Perry singled and later scored on an error off the bat of Hall to make it 3-0 after a half of an inning.

Susquehanna committed two errors in the bottom of the first, allowing Bloomer to score the unearned run, after one inning it was 3-1 Lady Sabers.

Smith reached on a one out error, she would later score on a Perry single to get the Susquehanna lead back to three runs.

The Lady Sabers added another run in the third, as Heller reached on an error, then later scored on a wild pitch, making it 5-1.

Piechocki started the six run rally in the bottom of the third with a leadoff single. Huyck got two quick outs as she looked for another scoreless inning.

However the next six Lady Raiders reached safely, as they scored six runs with two outs to take the 7-5 lead after three.

The lead was short lived however, as Susquehanna scored four runs on four hits in the top of the fourth to reclaim the lead 9-7.

Their lead swelled to three after they plated another run in the fifth. Oney-Roth reached on a one out error. She later scored on a Perry double to make it 10-7.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth. Piechocki, Carpenetti and Bloomer pounded out three consecutive doubles, as the score was suddenly 10-9.

Rutter delivered a one out single to bring Bloomer home with the tying run, knotting it up at 10 apiece.

Susquehanna took advantage of two errors by the Lady Raiders, scoring a run without a hit in the top of the seventh to take the 11-10 lead.

That's when the heroics started, Post and Kupier each smoked a line drive double, with Post scoring the tying run with nobody out.

After a pop out and a strikeout, Bloomer came to the plate and drove the 1-0 pitch over the centerfield fence for the thrilling 13-11 walk-off win. 

Blue Ridge pounded out 12 hits, led by Bloomer's three hits, including a homer and a double. She also drove in three runs and scored three.

Post and Abby Piechocki each had a pair of hits, with a double and scored two runs. Post also drove in a pair of runs as well.

Kuiper, Hailey Carpenetti, Hailey Champang, Peyton Rutter and Trista Laude each had a hit, scored a run and drove one in.

Laude went the distance in the circle for the win. She gave up 10 runs - five earned on nine hits and two walks to go with six strikeouts.

Susquehanna tallied 10 hits, with Megan Perry leading the way with three hits, including a double. She also drove in a pair of runs and scored one.

Gianna Creamer notched a pair of singles, driving in a run. Jordyn Oney-Roth smacked a double, drove in a pair and scored two runs.

Marley Smith had a hit and scored a game high four runs. Cass Cottrell cracked a triple and scored a run.

Alexandra Hall had a hit and drove in a run. Brooke Collins also registered a hit. Piper Heller scored two runs and Lauren Huyck scored once.

Huyck struck out nine and went the distance on the rubber for Susquehanna. She surrendered 13 runs - seven earned on 12 hits and four walks.
