BASEBALL: WILLIAM MARCY CLUBS TWO HOMERS, GETS WIN ON MOUND AGAINST BLUE RIDGE (2025-04-09)

NEW MILFORD - Travis Rooney and Matt Callender each collected four hits, totaling eight of Susquehanna's 14 hits on the evening. The Sabers scored runs in five innings on their way to the 10-5 victory over Blue Ridge.

It was the top of the order that did most of the damage for Susquehanna, as the top four hitters in their lineup tallied 11 hits, drove in seven runs and scored six.

After Caedon Stone reached on an error, Rooney drove him in smacking a double to center. Callender singled up the middle on a 2-2 pitch to plate Rooney and put the Sabers up 2-0.

In the home half of the first the Raiders answered with a pair of runs to tie it. Brayden Smith led off with a walk, Gehrig Dibble followed with a double.

Brendan Marvin and Matt Davis each reached on an error, allowing Smith and Dibble to score, making it 2-2 after an inning of play.

Gabe Maby led off the top of the second with a single, Nate Oropallo tripled on the next pitch to bring Maby around from first.

Oropallo would later score on a wild pitch, then William Marcy would smash a solo home run to make it 5-2.

Marcy worked around a leadoff single and a walk to hold the Raiders scoreless in the second. 

Dibble kept the Sabers off the board in the third, registering a pair of strikeouts in the frame.

Blue Ridge threatened in the bottom of the third, loading the bases with just one out, but Marcy would wiggle out of trouble fanning four batters in the inning.

Susquehanna put their first two runners on via an error and a hit by pitch to get the rally started in the fourth.

Stone singled on the 1-2 pitch to score Drew Hennessy, then Rooney singled to bring Stone in for the 7-2 lead.

Blue Ridge would again put traffic on the bases, but again Marcy worked out, striking out the final two batters of the fourth.

Marcy cracked his second homer of the game, a two run bomb with one out in the fifth, putting the Sabers up 9-2.

Travis Rutter led of the bottom of the fifth with a double, he would later score on a past ball.  Brian Derrick would reach on an error and score on a wild pitch, making it 9-4 after five innings.

After Susquehanna went scoreless in the top of the sixth, Marvin led off the bottom half with a single. He would later score on a wild pitch as the Raiders pulled within four runs.

Rooney and Callender cracked back to back singles in the seventh, as Rooney scored an insurance run making it 10-5.

Blue Ridge got a pair of singles in the bottom half, but failed to score as Susquehanna takes the league win 10-5.

Rooney finished with four hits, two doubles, a pair of RBI's and two runs scored. Callender also had four hits and drove in a run.

Marcy hit a pair of homers, driving in three runs and also scoring three runs. Oropallo also had two hits, scored two runs and drove one home.

Stone and Maby each had a hit and scored a run, Stone also drove a run in for the Sabers.

Marcy got the win on the bump, striking out nine over four innings. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits and three walks.

Rooney struck out six in his three innings of relief. He surrendered three unearned runs on four hits.

Marvin led the Raiders with two hits, driving in a run and scoring one as well. Dibble and Rutter each doubled and scored a run.

Derrick, Brandon Carpenetti, Andrew Kowalewski and Riley Hayes each had a hit. While Smith and Derrick each crossed home safely once.

Dibble got the loss on the mound, tossing three innings. He gave up five runs - four earned on six hits, while striking out four.

Marvin pitched the final four innings, allowing five runs - two earned on eight his and a walk, with five strikeouts.
