SOFTBALL: SUSQUEHANNA WINS 15-13 SLUGFEST OVER CARBONDALE (2025-04-04)

CARBONDALE - Susquehanna used a big fifth inning and a pair of runs in the seventh inning to win a slugfest 15-13 in Carbondale Friday afternoon. The two teams combined for 29 hits, with 22 of the 28 runs scored in the fifth inning or later.
Cassandra Cottrell had another big game at the plate, notching four hits with a double, three runs batted in and three runs scored.
Lauren Huyck smacked three doubles, while driving in two runs and crossing home safely three times. Brooke Collins also had three hits, with two doubles to drive in a pair of runs.
Jordyn Oney-Roth, Meghan Perry, Alexandria Hall and Gianna Creamer each had a pair of hits, while Marley Smith and Jordyn Spoor each had one.
Perry drove in three runs and scored twice. Spoor and Hall each scored a run and drove one in. Oney-Roth and Creamer both scored twice, while Smith crossed home once.
Huyck went all seven innings in the circle for the Lady Sabers. She surrendered 13 runs - seven earned on 19 hits, eight walks, while striking out seven.
Cottrell led the game off with a single, then scored on a Huyck double. Huyck would later score on a Perry single to right field to give the Lady Sabers a 2-0 lead.
The Chargerettes used five hits and a pair of walks to score four runs in the bottom of the first to take the two run lead.
The next three inning would be a pitchers duel as the scored remained 4-2 after four innings.
That's when the offensive explosion began. Susquehanna tallied 10 hits and eight runs in the top of the fifth to take a 10-4 lead.
Carbondale answered right back scoring six runs in the home half of the fifth to tie it up at 10 apiece.
The Lady Sabers plated three more runs in the sixth, however Carbondale responded with three runs of their own to keep pace with an inning to play.
With the scored tied in the seventh Creamer and Cottrell led the inning off with back to back doubles, with Creamer scoring on the Cottrell double.
Cottrell would later score, with Perry plating the insurance run on a fielder's choice to make it 15-13 after six and a half innings.
Carbondale put runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Huyck got a pop out and a strikeout to end the game and secure the victory.
It was the second win in as many days for the Lady Sabers as they improve to 2-2. They will play again on Wednesday at Blue Ridge.
