BASEBALL: BIG FIFTH INNING LEADS MONTROSE TO 10-3 VICTORY OVER FOREST CITY (2025-04-03)

MONTROSE - The Meteors broke open a 3-3 game, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to put a choke hold on the game. The Meteor bullpen tossed two scoreless innings to preserve the win for starting pitcher Chris McGee and the Meteors.
McGee turned in a solid start to earn the win. He went five innings, allowing three runs - one earned on five hits and a pair of walks to go with seven strikeouts.
Chase Harman pitched the sixth inning walking one and striking out a pair of Foresters.
Adam Sorensen got two outs in the seventh, but seemed to lose feel of the strike zone, giving way for Stoddard to register the final out.
Montrose had seven hits in the game, with four of them coming in the big fifth inning uprising.
McGee, Kasey Carey, and Lukas Cokely each notched a pair of hits. Carey and Cokely each scored a pair of runs and drove one in, while McGee drove in a pair and scored once.
Lincoln Brander had the other Meteor hit, he also drove in a pair of runs. Hudson Aukema drove in a run and scored one.
Stroddard scored a pair of runs, while Sorensen and Harman each touched home safely once.
The Meteors struck first, with Carey and Cokely hitting back to back singles with one out. Aukema then worked the count full, before getting Carey home with a sacrifice fly to center.
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the third. McGee issued a leadoff walk to Ethan Mead, who would score on a two out single by Jeremy Slick to make it 1-1.
Montrose answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to recapture the lead 3-1.
Cokely drew the one out walk, he later scored when Stoddard reached on an error. Stoddard worked his way around the bases and scored on a passed ball.
Forest City responded with two runs of their own, scoring both with two outs on a John Conolgue single.
With Montrose coming to bat in the top of the fifth the scored was still knotted at three. However the Meteors got the first eight batters of the inning on base.
Sorensen reached on an error to get the rally started, he scored on a Carey single. Cokely then plated Carey with a single of his own making it 5-3.
Aukema walked, Stroddard was plugged with a pitch to load the bases. After Cokely scampered home on a passed ball, McGee got Stoddard and Aukema home with a single.
Harman reached on an error, before Brander delivered a single, scoring McGee and Harman as the Meteors plated seven runs without an out.
They would prove to be the final runs of the game as the Meteors pick up their first league win with a 10-3 win over Forest City.
Montrose improves to 2-4 on the season and will travel to Blue Ridge Friday, with first pitch slated for 4:30.
