DISTRICT SWIMMING: BRYNN WARRINER AND CHELSEA GROSVENOR EACH BROKE SCHOOL RECORDS AS LADY WARRIORS CAP OFF A GREAT DISTRICT MEET (2025-03-01)

SusCo Sports Report
WILKES-BARRE - Saturday was day two of the PIAA District II Swimming Championships, Elk Lake followed up a solid day one performance, with what Coach Miguel Echevarria would describe as "another very successful day" on day two.

That is without a doubt true as the Lady Warriors added eight more medals to their cache, Brynn Warriner set another Elk Lake school record, qualifying her for a second individual event at the state swimming championships.

The Lady Warriors also qualified for states in another relay event, as Allison Grosvenor, Hannah Howell, Chelsea Grosvenor and Brynn Warriner qualified on time. The same quartet qualified as a team in the 200 Freestyle Relay on Friday.

Warriner got things started, breaking a school record for the second consecutive day. This time in the girls' 100 Freestyle taking a silver medal with a time of 54.74.

The junior still qualified for states based on time. Allison Grosvenor took a fifth place medal in the same race touching in 57.18.

Hannah Howell took home the next Lady Warrior medal, finishing the girls' 500 Freestyle in 5:48.94, good enough for a fifth place medal.

Chelsea Grosvenor also broke an Elk Lake school record, accomplishing the feat in the girls' 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:05.55.

The final girls event of the day was the 400 Freestyle Relay, the Lady Warriors would garner a silver medal as A. Grosvenor, Howell, C. Grosvenor and Warriner recorded a time of 3:48.15.

Coach Echevarria was glad to see all the hard work the girls have put in this entire season payoff on the big stage at districts.

"The girls have of course been having a historic season, and it was another big weekend for them. It's just awesome to see these girls rewarded for the grind they've gone through to get here."

"We'll send both the freestyle relays down to states on time, Brynn will go in the 50 as district champion, and the 100 on time."

"Honestly, as coach I'm being a little overly critical, I know they left some time in the water in those relays, especially the 400(they know it too), so we're gonna push to have an even more successful state meet."

On the boys side Isaiah Jones took home his second individual medal of the two day event, grabbing a sixth place medal in the boys' 500 Freestyle.

The boys' 400 Freestyle Relay time took home a sixth place medal finishing in 4:04.86, capping off the boys swimming season.

Coach Echevarria believes the boys program will only get stronger next season, "As a team in a rebuilding year, we made great strides in laying a strong foundation for the program moving forward. Junior and captain Isaiah Jones represented us well on the medal stand, and for the boys to sneak a relay into medal position is a great testament to the work they've put in this year."
